Redundancy
Caution must be exercised when making staff redundant.
The legal position is that there must be a genuine redundancy situation and the employer is required to operate an objectively fair selection procedure. The employee has to be given as much notice as is reasonably practicable in the circumstances and alternatives positions within the organisation must be considered. Redundancy should never be used as an excuse to ge rid of an unsatisfactory employee.
